The Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (England) Regulations 2019, made under sections 34 and 35 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017, made Relationships Education compulsory for all pupils receiving primary education They also make Health Education compulsory in all schools except independent schools.

In St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, the content of RHE taught as part of a broader Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) curriculum, will enable us to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, at school and in society. We have chosen 'Life to the Full’ by TenTen to provide our RHE curriculum. These resources are approved by the Diocese of Shrewsbury. This program allows us to implement RHE within the morals of the Church's teaching. It emphasises the central importance of marriage and family whilst acknowledging that all pupils have a fundamental right to have their life respected whatever household they come from and support will be provided to help pupils deal with different sets of values.

Through their programme, Ten Ten understand the foundational role that parents have in educating and nurturing their children on these matters. Within the programme, they have built in resources which will not only keep you informed about what is being taught in school, but will also give you the opportunity to engage your children in discussion, activity and prayer. The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, in which parents are the ‘first educators’ of their children on these matters; ultimately, you confer on us the right to co-educate your children with you.

We are keen that parents of pupils in St Clare’s are able to access the resources used in school. We consult with our parents (most recent consultation: April 2022) frequently, to ensure that we work in effective partnership.

DfE guidance states that the focus of RHE in primary school should be on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and with adults. The Life to the Full Program fully supports the DfE guidance and is complemented by resources from the PSHE Association as part of our wider PSHE program.
